switch up at YSL.

Perhaps I'm one of the few, but I'm sad to see Stefano Pilati leave the house of Yves Saint Laurent. It must be said that his collections, in terms of clothing became a bit dreary towards the end, but who wouldn't when they constantly face the threat of being ousted?

We'll see if any designer will have the same commercial success with accessories as Pilati. His shoes were worn consistently by celebrities and wine well to-do. The Tribute sandal became synonymous with good style. The footwear shown in his most recent Spring collection caught and kept the eye. If only my pocketed were a bit deeper, I'd snatch up the lot. Hedi Slimane is rumored to become the new creative director, replacing Pilati at YSL.

Though he saw success at Dior Homme with his revolutionary slim fit silhouette, he has never designed a womenswear collection. Though Yves Saint Laurent, the designer, was famed for his smoking suits for women, I wonder if Slimane will be able to expand that focus into more than suits, more than nice jackets and pants.

Thank you, Pilati for a commendable 8 years. Hopefully this season's collection won't be the last we see from you.
